Product Writing - BestBuy.com
"Tarmac"
"Acts of God"
"Bus dash"
"Road warrior"
"Mixed tapes"
"Three-letter"

These are examples of early BestBuy.com SKU writing. We were charged with creating "edgy-and-irreverant" and "light-and-lively" stories for each product, putting them in real-world situations while giving individualized specifications and benefit statements.

SXSW 2002 Coverage
Flak Magazine (under a pen name)

This is a South by Southwest recap I wrote for this online magazine in 2002.

Westside connection

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
BestBuy.com

Similar to Madden, the Grand Theft Auto games have been great fun to write and design for. Here's an example of a pointer asset, used to get people to click through to our full coverage.

Because it's not where you're from...

Flyover State eCommerce Site
FlyoverState.com

Celebrating Midwest style, the prairie country of Minnesota, American Apparel Ts, the Twins, sneaker blogs, and all things MPLS, this is my T-shirt brand Web site.

Critically acclaimed

Shortlist Music Prize Preview
Best Buy Entertainment

This is an example of the feature writing I did for Best Buy's Flash-based entertainment content site. Some of the images are missing from this one, but the copy is all there.

All the news that fit to, um...

This Week in Music - Rhett Miller
Best Buy Entertainment, SamGoody.com and MediaPlay.com

This is an example of a weekly music column I wrote for these three entertainment/commerce sites. Note: the first link to the full interview is out-of-order, but the second one is good to go. A few images are also MIA, but you'll still get the gist.

New dog, new tricks

Nintendogs
BestBuy.com

This was a fun promotional page that garnered a lot of positive feedback from the Retail team as well as Nintendo. Includes the rare (for Best Buy) sound effect, that also once woke up a co-worker's new baby.

Death and taxes

Tax Center
BestBuy.com

The oh-so-glamorous world of tax software comes alive. But explaining the positives of these popular software titles was really paramount, especially in the years before everyone did their taxes online. (This page is from 2004.)

Pick and choose

Indie Pick of the Week
BestBuy.com

Not the most exciting design-wise, but a fun writing project that focused on one CD a week (natch) from an up-and-coming, hip, buzzed-about artist. (Five are shown for demonstration purposes.)

Take it to the house

Madden NFL 07
BestBuy.com

It's always one of — if not the — biggest gaming event of the year. This is an example of a multi-section Flash promotional page for the 2006 edition. The intro scored a lot of points with the client as well as customers for being short, simple, to the point, but still impactful.

In translation

World in Conflict
BestBuy.com

For this Flash promotional page, I wrote it as if it were an "intercepted transmission." The design team put together a cool experience that can be toggled back-and-forth from English to Russian — all while actually giving some key game features and info.
